NATO’S STRATEGIC CONCEPT– A Canadian Perspective
Key Themes |
|
· Maintaining the security of liberal democratic states everywhere will pose great challenges in the 21st century. The security interests of liberal democratic states have become so interdependent that a global effort is required to protect them from threats wherever they may arise.
· NATO members' enormous military resources are directed towards the territorial defence of the NATO area and are ill-suited to respond to emerging worldwide threats.
· Alliance decision-making is often ponderous and members frequently authorize action without committing sufficient resources for success. Common funding for operations and operational capabilities needs to be embraced across the Alliance to eliminate inequitable financial burdens.
· Non-military resources remain underdeveloped despite their importance in the advancement and execution of contemporary military and security engagements. |
